Simple Answers to what is the DNA Diet?
The DNA Diet is based on the belief that genetics have a large part in determining how our body reacts to food.
Does the DNA Diet really work?
Yes, it does work, but like all things in life, you have to work it too. Nothing comes without some effort, but the DNA Diet will work in amazing ways for you, if you give it your all.
How does the DNA Diet work?
First of all, we need to figure out what your genetics say about you. What does your genetic profile mean? We create menu plans for you and snack ideas that will help you to lose weight, yet stay comfortable and not hungry. We figure out what foods work for your body and which foods don’t. If you follow your DNA Diet you will not only start to see weight loss, but you will also experience an improvement in mood, as once you give your body what it really needs to work most efficiently, it sends a pleasure message to your brain that makes you feel full and sated.
How can you tell which DNA Diet will work for me? How do you know that I have those particular genes?
When you fill out our special questionnaire and then submit it to us, we can then determine what type of genetic predispositions you have. Our formula relies on the science of genetics to understand what genes you have and what diet will work for you. For instance, if you are an Omega 3 dietary genetic type, then you would be advised to stay away certain foods. You will be given simple recipes to use if you wish to, dietary tips for eating out at restaurants, specific foods not to eat and other foods that will assist you in losing weight and also foods that will suit your particular genetic profile.
Why is the DNA Diet better for me than other diets?
The DNA Diet is the only diet that specifically relies on your genetic profile to assist you in weight loss. There is no guesswork involved in the DNA Diet, no gimmicks or tricks, no misleading slogans or misrepresentations. We are simply telling you what works best for your individual body. There is no question that our genes make up who we are and we are all different from one another to the point where our fingerprints are all different. Working with your specific genetic makeup, we will prepare a diet for you, and only you. You will be part of a particular genetic group but you will have your own genetic identity and your own unique diet. No other diet can rival the DNA Diet.
I don’t want to cook recipes; I just want to be able to know what to eat? Can I still do the DNA Diet?
Yes, you can still do the DNA Diet. You don’t have to be a chef to eat the right foods for your body type. We will design menu plans for you that work for dining out, ordering in, shopping at the store and snacking around the house. We will give you the directions; you just have to follow the right path.
Do my genes affect my weight?
Absolutely. Whichever genes were passed down to you from your mother and your father can predetermine how your metabolism is going to work and how you will burn calories. This is called your nature. Your genes are also responsible for things like hair color or eye color. However, your genes affect your weight because you were born with a certain metabolism, a predisposition to be naturally skinny or to struggle with your weight. But you can fight back against your nature if you are not happy with how you look.
Is there more to dieting than just calories eaten and calories burned?
Yes! First of all, there are different types of calories that we eat and burn. The first calories our bodies choose to burn are the carbohydrates in our diet. This goes for everyone. The human body seeks energy to live so it relies on fast energy that comes from simple carbohydrates such as sugar, white flour, pasta and bread, then it moves onto the protein and finally the fat. Looking at the situation simplistically, one can conclude that if you eat more calories than you burn, that you will gain weight. This is true however it is too simple to put into action. Some bodies burn calories faster than others and some bodies need more calories than others. This is where genetics comes into play. You need to be able to figure out how many calories your particular body needs each day, how many calories it can burn and how fast and finally what kind of calories suits your body the best.
Have you ever wondered?
Have you ever wondered why a certain family might be prone to being overweight or athletically built? Have you ever wondered if perhaps your metabolism is slower than other people’s? Perhaps your entire family is one that struggles with weight issues themselves or perhaps you are one of those people who doesn’t understand why you are overweight or why you struggle to lose the excess weight more than someone else would. The DNA Diet addresses all these questions and more.
Why that whole family is overweight or big boned and if you are one of those people, how can you overcome that problem?
There are certain genes that can make you predisposed to particular conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, and yes, obesity. But just because you are destined to struggle more with certain things than other people, it doesn’t mean that you can’t win the battle. You just need to find a way that works for you that most importantly will take your genetic profile into consideration
Why am I prone to gaining weight in my stomach area? Or why am I prone to gaining weight in my hips and buttocks region?
There is a reason why weight gathers in certain areas and not in others and it is based on genetic variances in our bodies. Some people tend to be what is called an apple shape which means that they carry more weight in their stomach and abdomen area, and others are more of a pear shape which means that they tend to gain weight in the hips and buttocks area. [
Why is my friend so skinny when she eats the same food that I do?
There actually was a study published in the year 2000 that found that even when subjects were hospitalized in order to avoid them ‘cheating’ and then fed the exact same number of calories, weight loss was remarkably uneven among the subjects. The frustrating truth is that there are some people who will, as a result of genetics, tend to burn fat faster, have a quicker metabolism than others and will be able to lose weight more easily than others. There will always be those women who lose their pregnancy weight in a matter of weeks while others struggle for months, if not years to battle the extra fat they gained. Faster metabolisms and the ability to lose weight quickly without seemingly to do more work to get the weight off, has a genetic base. But that doesn’t mean that if you are one of those who cannot lose the weight quickly or has a slow metabolism, that you are doomed. There are certain foods and beverages that can help speed up your metabolism naturally, plus there are other ways to change your body’s disposition to hang onto the excess weight. Eating at certain times of the day along with how many meals you eat and what snacks you choose can also affect your metabolism and help you to shed the weight.
What does nature versus nurture really mean?
This is an age old discussion about how we become who we are, or what affects us the most; the stuff on the outside or the stuff on the inside. It is very important to know what affects us on the outside, because that is what we can most easily change. What affects us on the inside is what we are born with, and that is harder to change but still possible. The general conclusion is that it is a 50/50 split. Fifty percent of whom we are, what we look like and how we behave is already predetermined through genetics and is in our nature. The other fifty percent, which is what is referred to as nurture, is what affects us after we are born. For instance, nurture means how we are brought up, what foods our family ate or had us eat when we were little, and what surrounds us now that affects our weight and our lifestyle such as what we eat, when we eat, how much exercise we take, how much sleep we get (those who don’t get enough sleep along with those who get too much, tend to be overweight), and if we smoke or not, amongst other things.
